I painted this to remind myself that when I love and accept all of me, the dark and light part, it’s like a love affair.  Before that day, I rejected half of me.  I tried to hide the part that I thought wasn’t good enough. Derek Walcott’s poem, “Love After Love” inspired me.  He wrote, “The time will come when, with elation, you will greet yourself arriving at your own door…..You will love again the stranger who was your self…..the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you have ignored for another…”  Those words melt me whenever I read them.  Until that day, it’s like a house divided.  Your heart is broken.  You long for the presence of your other half.
