I was challenged to write something that matters to me and to tell people what I'd like them to do about it. That's what this post is about. Well, if you've read my About Page, you know I've been through some dark days. You know I create dark fairytale art to remind you and me that we can find a way to get through those difficult times because fairytales teach us that we have what it takes to beat dragons.
One of those "dragons" that needs to be beaten is when we believe we aren't good enough. If you've ever felt different or excluded, you know what I mean----and I'm guessing that's almost everyone at one point or another. Unfortunately, this kind of negative and limiting belief usually comes from those who raised us. What's worse is they inherited those beliefs from the ones who raised them. It's passed on. The pain becomes a vicious cycle embedded during childhood and inherited by each new generation. It goes deep. We believe it and it keeps us from knowing our true magic and happiness.
Well, I want us to stop this! Let's say NO MORE to passing on this shit. I've done a lot of work to uproot this negativity and to crumble the lair of this vicious dragon. Here are 3 exercises that have helped me:
#1burn those negative & limiting beliefs
You heard me! Get a sheet of paper. Write down the negative belief. (For example, "I don't feel good enough".) Describe how it feels and all the things that it keeps you from doing. It may feel uncomfortable or scary to get in touch with these feelings. I cried and screamed as I wrote down mine. Once you're done, take the sheet and burn it. Yep, watch it go up in flames and turn to ash! Please do this in a safe place. I burned mine in my metal sink. You may have a better place like an actual fireplace or barbecue.
#2 write down the ideal situation
Now, get another sheet of paper and write down the ideal situation. Let your imagination run wild, dreaming up how wonderful you feel when you're free from that limiting belief. (For example, I find the partner of my dreams or I get the job promotion I deserve.) Describe how good you feel and what you do in this ideal situation IN THE PRESENT TENSE, not the future tense.
#3 take the ideal situation with you wherever you go
Take that sheet of paper and fold it up and put it in your pocket wherever you go. Everyday. Night or day. To school or work. To parties or meetings or church. Carry it with you like it's part of you. Finally, make sure you look at it and read it ALOUD at least once a day. Let me say that one more time because it's important. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE IT OUT AND READ IT ALOUD AT LEAST ONCE A DAY! Got it?
This will dismantle that negative and limiting belief. You will see you are beating that dragon to the ground!
If you feel like getting a witness, share your experience and/or ideal situation here in the comments. It would be so inspiring. Yep, let's inspire each other. Let's beat that dragon!
